With official support for WindowsXP gone, is IE8 dead?

As the latest browsers from Firefox, Opera and Chrome are still available for Windows XP there are fewer reasons to support IE8.  Although it's always nice to be able to support everyone, clients with limited budgets have already voted, clients with larger budgets want performance and functionality for the latest and greatest and so haven't been targeting IE8 anyway; WindowsXP can still run the latest websites using Firefox, Opera and Chrome so no one is being left behind.

The main downsides for a WindowsXP user is an old machine is slow by today's standards and it will be a sitting target for security vulnerabilities and scams, alas only upgrading will be able to fix that one and that is down to the end users, as the idiom goes, you pays your money and you takes your choice.
